Bhagwan Mahaveer Foundation

Bhagwan Mahaveer Foundation was established by Shri N Sugalchand Jain in 1994 to identify, encourage and honour the individuals and institutions who are doing selfless service for the welfare of the underprivileged and the weak in our society. With a view to focus public attention on the activities of these altruistic persons and encourage others to emulate them and take up community and social services, the Bhagwan Mahaveer Foundation has instituted the Mahaveer Awards which is given every year.

About The Awards

The Bhagwan Mahaveer Foundation instituted the Mahaveer Awards which are presented every year. Initially the Foundation instituted one award under the category Community & Social Service. Gradually, the number of awards increased from 1 to 4 over the years and the cash component of the award from ₹ 5 Lakh to ₹ 40 Lakh in total.

Non-Violence & Vegetarianism

The award is given to inspire people to follow the principles of Bhagwan Mahaveer who preached Ahimsa and Nonviolence 2600 years ago.

Most of us are not aware that there are a large number of individuals and institutions spread throughout the country serving their fellowmen, under very difficult conditions in their self chosen task of alleviating the problems of others. Who Can Be Nominated ?

The awards are open to institutions and independent practitioners operating in the public, private or voluntary sectors, regardless of size of organisation. Any individual or institution providing selfless service to the needy sections of the society can be nominated. One can nominate by filling up the Nomination form along with details of the service and the sector of service, and send the form either through post or as an attachment in the e­mail. Self Nomination can also be done.

Selection Process

Nominations in the prescribed format are invited from all parts of our country, with the help of administrators, legislators, bureaucrats, educationists, media , social workers and parliamentarians. Letters are mailed to them for the purpose.
